Frames (Monica Petrucci, Darcey Riggs, Drew Oberholtzer)

What is Frames?

  • An educational software for stopmotion animation, claymation, and digital storytelling.

Applications for Teachers

  • Helps illustrate literature
  • Personalized projects for each student
  • Teaching the process of story-telling

Applications for Students

  • Illustrate your own animation. Use the drawing tools in Frames to create your own illustrations. Group, layer, and transform shapes to make your animation uniquely yours.
  • Onion Skin. Use the onion skin preview to align frames and adjust for movement in your camera. You can also use onion skin to transform a couple of images into stop-motion action.
  • Capture frames from DV and USB cameras. Create stop-motion animation by capturing still frames from your DV or USB digital video cameras. Simply plug in, focus, and start capturing frames. Connect your digital camera and drag frames and entire folders into an animation.
  • New Digital Storytelling Features. For all of the budding digital storytellers out there, Frames 4 includes enhanced pan and zoom options, as well as text and object animations. And don't forget Frames has always included 2 audio tracks!
  • Export to Adobe Flash®. If you are sharing your files online, you can now export them to Adobe Flash® format. The export is fast, the files are small, and the stories can be read by most Internet browsers.
  • Import images from a connected digital camera. Connect your digital camera and it appears inside the Frames Library panel. Simply drag the frames you want to add into your animation or import the entire folder at once.
  • Habla usted Español? SíParlez-vous français? Oui If your OS is working in Spanish or French, so is Frames. Set Frames to run in your local language default or use the Preferences to change the interface to Spanish.

Applications for the Classroom

  • Students can create stop-motion animated stories using original illustrations they have created with the drawing tools, pictures from a digital or DV camera, or photographs of a clay animation. Students can save their work as Flash, video, animation files to share online, in multimedia presentations, or for inclusion in other video productions.
